Chicas Poderosas is searching for journalists, data analysts, developers, designers, communicators and artists that want to participate in a training event to explain the gender inequality in politics in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.
This event is possible thanks to the support and financing of Internews.
What is Chicas Poderosas – Powerful politics?
This will be a meeting point for more than 40 people that work with technology and narratives in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. With the use of data, journalism, programming, design and art we want to prove how gender inequality in Central America governments affects everyone.
What are we trying to achieve?
- Identify the number of women elected to positions of political representation in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala based on the latest electoral results and current positions in the executive, legislative and local government agencies.
- Indicate whether the work of these women in politics has been directed towards issues that seek to reduce the gap created by gender inequality, to address gender issues or to address their issues and agendas with a gender perspective.
- Train people from the three countries of the Northern Triangle of Central America in data analysis and visualization of data to consolidate a network of journalists with specific skills in their newsrooms and work spaces.
- An exercise in collaborative journalism and innovation where participants can create an urban intervention in the streets of El Salvador that contributes to show gender inequality in politics.
How we are going to make it happen?
During two and a half days we will have 35 participants from the Northern Triangle of Central America and five mentors from Mexico, Portugal, Colombia, Guatemala and El Salvador who will receive and give training in multimedia skills, visualization and data journalism, design and art. Which will serve as the basis for an urban intervention that will take place on the afternoon before the inauguration of the Central American Journalism Forum.
Topics and tools of the event:
Training: We will share tools and processes about multimedia, visualization and data journalism, design and art.
Visualization of stories: Teach to tell stories in an intuitive and easy to understand way to generate interest in the audience.
Networking and creative process: Bring together a group of people with different skills to work together, accept change and celebrate the possibility of developing new projects.
Enhance networking: Chicas Poderosas also aims to feed a network where participants can keep in touch to continue developing projects and maintain the exchange of knowledge.
When will this happen?
